3 T butter
3 T flour
1 ½ cups milk
salt and pepper to taste
2 cloves minced garlic
4 round white or Yukon Gold Maine potatoes, pared and cut into ¼ inch slices
Preheat oven to 375 degrees and grease a 2-quart casserole dish.
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter, add flour and cook 2-3 minutes. Slowly stir in milk and cook until mixture thickens. Add garlic and salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat.
Put a layer of half the potatoes in the dish and pour half the sauce on top. Repeat with the remainder of potatoes and sauce.
Bake covered 45 minutes. Uncover and bake about 15 minutes more until potatoes are tender and top is brown.
