Growers are reminded to take care of cull piles and scout for any volunteer potatoes that may be occurring in rotation fields. There are more volunteers out there than I expected from the winter we had. Both volunteers and cull piles can serve as initial or intermediary sources of inoculum for a number of potato diseases and insects. Controlling these inoculum sources will help minimize disease and insect levels for the farm and industry.
