Potato Breeding Farm Operations Tech

  1. Appointment: Full-time, regular, 40 hrs/week
  2. Location: Aroostook Research Farm – Presque Isle – ME
  3. Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
  4. Pay: $18.13/hour or applicable transfer rate per ACSUM agreement

About the role
Join a hands-on team working on potato breeding and production. You will maintain our field and greenhouse, support planting and harvesting, and help with data collection and sample evaluations. Your work will ensure research operations run smoothly, safely, and efficiently.

Essential Duties

  • Helps prepare greenhouse spaces for the growing season and winter use, and performs greenhouse work, including crossing plants, planting, and harvesting from pots.
  • Prepares seed potatoes for planting,
  • Assists in field, greenhouse, and laboratory research activities and data collection.
  • Conducts yield and quality evaluations of research potato samples.
  • Monitors and maintains controlled environment potato storage lockers.
  • Collects samples and data from research plots.
  • Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Required)

  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
  • Valid Maine driver’s license
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Willingness to work in field, greenhouse, laboratory, and grading spaces in variable conditions, including weather and dust
  • Patience and accuracy for detailed, routine research tasks such as planting, weighing, grading, slicing, frying, cutting, packaging, and counting
  • Strong listening skills and ability to follow instructions so tasks are completed correctly
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
